Renegades Annual Talent Show Fundraiser A Success
KINGSTON, N.Y., July 19, 2017 – Bob Dylan had some competition on Friday, June 23rd! While he was hosting his own concert around the corner in Kingston, there were plenty of show-stopping acts stealing the spotlight at the Renegade’s annual talent show fundraiser.
The Renegades, an advocacy group for adults who are affected by an intellectual or developmental disability that meets monthly at The Arc of Ulster-Greene’s administrative offices, hosted their annual talent show fundraiser at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Kingston. The evening was filled with choreography, instrumental performances and singing acts that ranged from from The Backstreet Boys, to Michael Jackson, to Christina Aguilera. Enjoying some treats from the bake sale, audience members sat in front of the stage, all singing along to their favorite songs.
Mara LeBlanc, Arc of Ulster-Greene Staff member and Renegades Advisor expressed just how much she enjoys the talent show. “This event is one that I look forward to all year long,” she said. “I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a passionate and talented group.”
A total of $380 was raised, which helps allow the Renegades elected officers to attend conferences and meetings, as well as be used towards various events they host and donations to community non-profits that the Renegades votes on and make throughout the year.
If anyone is interested in attending a Renegades meeting, they are held the third Thursday of every month, 6:30pm-8:00pm, at the administration offices of The Arc of Ulster-Greene, 471 Albany Avenue, Kingston, New York 12401. The Renegades are a local affiliate of the Self-Advocacy Association of New York State.
Bravo to everyone who performed that day, and thank you to everyone who helped the event run smoothly!
