KINGSTON, N.Y., April 13, 2016 – With hot coffee and fresh pastries, the Blackboard Bistro, located at the Rondout Municipal Center at 1920 Lucas Avenue Extension in Cottekill, opened its doors to the community on March 16. The once vacant cafeteria is now a lively eatery, providing locals with a convenient place to grab a bite to eat and take a few minutes out of the day to simply relax.
The Blackboard Bistro has a robust breakfast and lunch menu, offering everything from egg sandwiches and pancake platters in the morning to deli sandwiches and hamburgers in the afternoon. As the space was originally a school cafeteria, the bistro offers up a Throwback Thursday special; a nostalgic play on a cafeteria classic such as turkey cubes in gravy, sloppy joes, or meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
“We are truly excited to bring a new dynamic into the Rondout Municipal Center by providing an eatery option for locals and also offer catering services to area events. The bistro also creates training opportunities for people interested in exploring careers in the culinary field,” states John McHugh, executive director of The Arc of Ulster-Greene.
The idea for the Blackboard Bistro was originally explored when The Arc of Ulster-Greene, a local non-profit that supports children and adults affected by intellectual or other developmental disabilities, began working in partnership with the towns of Rosendale and Marbletown to be a stakeholder within the Rondout Municipal Center by renting a full wing of the building for staff development, school-to-work programs, and day services.
The Blackboard Bistro is currently open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Locals are encouraged to stop in, taste the fare and provide feedback. With the main entrance located in the back of the Rondout Municipal Center, simply follow the signs for the Blackboard Bistro and you will not miss it. Customers can also call in their order so that it’s ready for pick-up at (845) 802-5350 ext. 144 or find out what is special of the day.
As the Blackboard Bistro develops the goals are simple: make customers happy, offer great food and provide new opportunities for culinary learning.
